Touchlink Mobile and OrangeTM introduces the popular "Berlitz Phrasebooks" on SmartPhones running under Microsoft® Windows Mobile. The "Berlitz Phrasebooks" is a product for Java-enabled mobile phones that targets the huge group of subscribers who might not download a game, but they will download a phrasebook. These products offer approximately 60-150 words and phrases to be learned in a number of languages. Customers can choose their basic language and the language they want to learn, download an application, read and listen to the translations. A great help on holidays or simply a way to build your vocabulary of foreign words. Situation OrangeTM in United Kingdom is about to launch a new series of phones running on Windows Mobile, and they wanted to provide the users with the latest in wireless applications. Only a few months earlier the Berlitz Phrasebooks were released as J2ME applications for a wide range of handsets. Touchlink Mobile was contacted to port the Berlitz Phrasebooks to Microsoft® Windows Mobile, so OrangeTM can preload a limited trail version on each handset (Orange Try card), offering the users to buy the complete product online from the phone with ease. Solution Touchlink Mobile takes the J2ME applications, and reuses all sound recording, sources and the complete concept. The user interface is changed to comply with the guidelines of Windows Mobile, and sound files are compressed in a different format, while the complete application is rewritten in C# and a limited trail version with a link to OrangeTM online shop is created. After extensive quality assurance the files are handed over to OrangeTM that after internal tests approves the project. Results In under a month Touchlink Mobile was able to complete the platform porting needed for OrangeTM to launch their new series of phones with the latest achievements in wireless edutainment.
