The largest energy company of Portugal, Galp Energia, sponsored the participation of the driver Carlos Sousa in the Lisbon Dakar Rally 2007
The objectives for the development of a mobile rally game were:
- to generate maximum attention from sponsorship
- launch application in good time before rally
- availability on broad range of handsets
Solution
Galp Energia gave the task of creating the game to a partnership of YDreams– a leading Portuguese developer and publisher of entertainment solutions –and Touchlink Mobile. Carlos Sousa Galp Rally Raid is a fast-paced rally racing game for Java enabled mobile phones. Driving Carlos Sousa’s Volkswagen Touareg, the user must navigate the nine epic Lisbon Dakar stages –from the plains of the Alentejo in Portugal, to the desert tracks of Africa. Features of the game include a range of obstacles such as cactus, rocks, trees, and other cars; fine tuning of engine, tires and suspension before each stageand advanced navigation using GPS, compas and maps crossing open desert
Results
The game was developed in the record time of three weeks by Touchlink Mobile for distribution by YDreams in Portugal and the rest of the World. The game was made available in 24 seperate versions for 110 handsets. The final delivery was made by Touchlink Mobile three days earlier than agreed.
For the second year in a row, Carlos Sousa won the first stage of the rally, Lisbon-Portimao, to the great enjoyment of his home fans. Overall, his position was number 7 out of 189 starting teams
